Any Monkey Can Blog

Reader Warning: As you read this article you will initially be skeptical of what I am about to say, but if you stay with me you’ll realize by the end I am exactly right—and I can prove it.

Right now it is popular to tell people no one can make money blogging unless they spend years creating solid content, leveraging it for readers and search engine position and patiently living on pennies while waiting for the 20,000 daily visitors it will take to make you a living.

Here’s your good news: That’s bull-pucky.

Virtually everyone who is writing those things have one thing in common: The only way they have ever made money was through PASSIVE MARKETING—selling advertising or using almost invisible affiliate links on their blogs.

Passive marketing requires tons of interested visitors a small fraction of whom take the action of clicking on an ad and buying a product.

Let’s think about it: If you get 100,000 visitors to your blog in a year, and each on sees about 8 ad exposures, 1% click on one of the ads and you make $1 for each click, you make $8,000.00 for the year—and you would be looking at no residual income at all the following years.

But if you follow an ACTIVE MARKETING plan, 100,000 visitors will produce 40,000 RSS and Email subscribers, each producing as much as $1 EACH MONTH. Even if all those subscribers came in the 12th month you would make $40,000.00 for the year. Not only that, following an active marketing plan you would continue to make about $1 per month for the next year as well for each of those 40,000 subscribers.

I suspect many of those who are now telling you it takes years to monetize a blog will eventually learn there are better ways to start and monetize a blog. If not, don’t tell them–it’s better for us to know the truth and use it to our advantage.
